Perubahan Peran Gender Pada Keluarga Buruh Migran Perempuan

The increase of women migrant worker’s number in Pati District is followed by changes in the households left behind, like gender role shifting. This study aimed to describe the change of gender roles in transnational households, include productive-reproductive, parenting, and decision making. It used qualitative approach. It involved 4 transnational households. The main data were obtained through depth interviews with the husbands and wives. The data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study were: (1) the migration done by the wives caused wives had bigger productive roles and as the consequence, the husband took over the domestic roles; (2) the shifting on parenting role happened in which, the husband tackled parenting role without or with extended family’s help; (3) Smart phone and social media became the main tools used by the women migrant workers to involve in parenting activities. (4) Economic contribution given by women migrant workers increased the wives’ participation in decision making, particularly on remittance use. However, they did not have proper control mechanism on remittance use
